It's Not Too Late to Sign Up!

Make This the Best School Year Yet

Here Are some tips:

  1. Begin early. It is never too late to implement positive changes that can lead to better grades. However, the earlier that you get on track, the easier it is to stay there.

  2. Get informed. Parents should develop regular communication with the teacher. Be informed of important school dates (big projects, standardized testing) well in advance to avoid last-minute scrambles.

  3. Use a family calendar. A large wall calendar can manage school, family, and extracurricular activities. Alternatively, you can use technology to ensure important dates and activities are loaded into everyone’s schedule.

  4. Break bad habits. Don’t fall back into old routines and bad habits. Start this year with a fresh and new positive routine. Good routines are just as easy to form as bad ones!

  5. Get help. Avoid struggling this year from the get-go by making the decision to get professional support for children.

  6. Don’t wait and see. If a child had difficulties last year, get help from day one and get on the path to a better school year.

Testimonials

We are so grateful to have found Oxford Learning. It's the best thing we’ve done for our daughter, by far! We have seen her confidence jump in leaps and bounds! Because of her connection with her teachers, her attitude towards school, and in life in general, has improved. They have adapted and tailored her learning for her specific needs and personality. She trusts her teachers and cares for them, and I know they care about her too. They are business owners, but more importantly, they are educational experts and parents to boot! I feel like they understand my kiddo, and the issues I’m going through as well. I highly recommend Oxford to anyone wanting to improve their child’s learning and education! If you want your child to have a positive relationship with learning and growing, Oxford Learning is the place to be! I want to take this moment to say a heartfelt thank you to Monique, Michelle and all the teachers at Oxford Learning!
Kim - Parent of a Grade 6 Student
I am currently a student enrolled at Oxford Learning and my experience at this tutoring center has been very positive. I am in the IB program and their approach and methods in teaching Math and French have greatly helped my marks in school improve. The teachers patiently guided me and made sure that I understood the material before moving on to other lessons.
Isabella - Grade 11 Student
I had an exceptional time at Oxford Learning. They have excellent staff, working areas and designs. Their structure of learning is unparalleled compared to other places as they guide you step by step through every problem, giving suggestions and different solutions along the way. I found their content concise yet extremely helpful for my learning and growth, and their learning strategies incomparable. Would recommend for anyone needing any extra help.
Sam - Grade 9 Student
After my parents enrolled me in Oxford, I have seen my improvements in English and Math. My reading speed has increased a lot from all the sessions I had over the summer. I also advanced in math and learned all the lessons that I am now learning in my math class. Oxford also helped me to be a more organized student by highlighting important details in passages. Overall, Oxford is a great place to go to. It is really helpful for school. Hundred percent recommended!
Diego - Grade 9 Student
Oxford Learning Langley Walnut Grove was really helpful because the booklets were useful in practicing writing and learning new vocabularies. The teachers helped me to study hard and helped me understand how to learn English.

5 Tips From Tutors in Langley To Prevent Freezing On Exams

Most students have likely dealt with freezing on exams despite putting in hours of hard work and preparation. The phenomenon commonly known as exam ‘freezing’ can be a significant obstacle to unlocking academic potential.

Applying Study Skills in Real Life

Many students who learn study skills struggle to apply them effectively in their daily lives. Study skills are often memorized but not understood.

At Oxford Learning Langley, tutors believe that studying is more than just about memorizing. Instead, proper studying is about deepening comprehension.

Merely memorizing new rules won’t solve the problem. The study skills tutors at Oxford Learning Langley tutors go beyond addressing surface-level issues and delve into the emotional and motivational barriers that hinder academic success. By unlocking these hidden obstacles, students can break free from the ‘freeze’ and perform at their true potential.

Understanding What’s Happening

When students encounter questions that may seem familiar, the challenge of recalling the necessary information intensifies, eventually resulting in a mental block. Simply put, students freeze on exams when they try to access information that hasn’t been properly organized in their memory, creating a temporary block in their cognitive processes.

Five Strategies for Test Success

Oxford Learning Tutors in Langley Share These Five Proven Study Strategies for Test Success:

  1. Create Study Notes. Every night, spend 10 minutes per subject summarizing the day’s lessons into concise study notes. Break down information into main ideas, supporting details, and sub-details. Make these notes short, in point form, and use your own words.
  2. Review. Revisit study notes 48 hours later. Instead of memorizing, focus on understanding the content. Turn the notes into a story or visualization to enhance comprehension and retention.
  3. Keep Track. Maintain a day book, planner, or agenda to organize assignments, tests, homework, and personal information. Make entries in class as you receive assignments or test dates. Review nightly before starting a study session.
  4. Identify What Works. Identify distractions that hinder focus, such as noise, movement, or crowds. Adjust the study environment accordingly. If noise is a problem, find a quiet place for focused study.
  5. Set Long-Range Goals. A mindset shift helps students understand that success is a student’s responsibility. Setting and pursuing long-term goals helps students understand the purpose of learning and take control of their education.

Implementing study strategies contributes to active learning, breaking the cycle of ‘freezing’ by engaging the mind more dynamically and purposefully.
