Teacher
Iona is a retired teacher with many, many years of educational experience. She moved to the Collingwood area thirty plus years ago. Although she has taught students from Kindergarten to adults and was an Elementary School Principal, she has always enjoyed working with children who are struggling to learn to read. Over the years she has developed many strategies that help them to be successful with their reading. After a few years of retirement, Iona missed teaching, so when the opportunity arose five years ago, she accepted a position at Oxford Learning Centre. Her new puppy, Poppy, occasionally comes to the Centre on Saturday mornings. Our students love it when Poppy comes to class!

Teacher
Peggy (some of you may know her as Mrs. White) has been tutoring at Oxford Learning Collingwood since 2016! Of all our staff, she has been here the longest and are we ever glad she sticks around! Peggy is always using her extensive teaching experience and continually seeking new angles to help our students succeed. She has an Honours BSc in Kinesiology and a BEd from Queen’s University and taught junior/intermediate for many years, first in Waterloo and then in Simcoe. She didn’t stay retired for long before joining Oxford Learning. She is very fond of her 2 kids and especially fond of her 2 grandkids and her dog Pepper. When not babysitting or at Oxford Learning, you can find Peggy out walking Pepper, skiing, race timing, golfing, biking or playing pickleball. She also loves to garden, knit, bake and read! She gets some well-deserved downtime every summer at her family cottage in the 1000 Islands. We love Peggy’s sense of humour and miss her when she is away in the summer!

Sharon (known as Mrs. McFarlane) taught with the SCDSB for 30 years, and soon after retiring in January 2019, her passion for working with children to help them strengthen their reading, writing and math skills led her to join the Oxford Learning team! She was retired for all of a month before coming to Oxford Learning - that is how strong her passion is for helping kids! Sharon has an Honours Degree in Psychology from Western and a B.Ed. from York University. During her teaching career, she had the opportunity to work with students from Grades 1 through 8, but most of her years were teaching Grades 1 to 3. She sure knows a lot of great songs to help kids learn their times tables!
Sharon loves being active! Hiking with her daughter, walking with friends, and swimming with the Georgian Bay Squalls are just some of the activities that she loves doing. Reading a good book, travelling with her hubby, coaching, and volunteering with Hospice fill the rest of her time. Of course, when summer arrives, Sharon sails away with her husband on beautiful Georgian Bay for some relaxation!

Lynn OOZES math! Which is a good thing as she is our high school math teacher. Lynn retired a few years ago after teaching high school math for 25 years in the Durham Catholic School Board! She couldn't resist joining our team to continue to share her love and passion for math with our students. Lynn has a degree in Pure Math from the University of Ottawa and continued her studies obtaining advanced standings in Actuarial Science from Western University and her B.Ed was completed at University of Toronto OISE. We are so lucky to have someone that is so excited about math to teach our Oxford Learning students. Did we mention that she is also fluent in French?
When Lynn isn't playing around with Quadratics or Calculus she can be found playing at the curling rink, playing Euchre or walking her dog. Lynn loves her cruising vacations and taking extra long weekends to visit her new grandbabies in Regina - but she always makes sure that she is back in time for class!
