Screen vs. Paper Reading—Which is Better for Learning?

According to research, how students read—not just what they read—matters!

  • Students who read on paper score higher on comprehension tests than those who read on screens.
  • Reading on screens leads to skimming and lowered attention and retention.
  • Reading on paper engages more senses, which boosts comprehension and recall.

Testimonials

I'd like to say a big thank you to the Edmonton South Oxford learning tutors. My daughter Mary had been an honours student but felt really challenged that in spite of her efforts, she had not been good enough to get the principal's list award. She asked if I could pay for lessons so she could know what she wasn't doing right. So our journey with Oxford Learning began in August of 2017. The challenge was to get Mary's grade in English language and Math from 85% and 86% respectively to 90% and above. She definitely got the help she needed and her end-of-year grades for 2017-2018 were 96% and 95% in both subjects and yes, she got the principal's list award too! It was a great joy to see her so happy and fulfilled. Thanks, Oxford Learning!

It is so important that a child be introduced to a program that is both educational and fun. I’m a firm believer that it has a huge impact on how a child views education. My son started Little Readers after a couple of other “preschool” programs. There was no comparison! He learned so much more in one month than he did in the previous 9 months with the other programs. Little Readers has more than prepared him for kindergarten. When my daughter was old enough, it was a no brainer where she was going. She loves being a Little Reader! C Hope

My son Colin will soon begin his journey into the world of postsecondary education, and thanks to his teachers at Oxford Learning, he is more organized and finally has confidence in his own judgment. He is more than prepared to tackle the SATs and is looking forward to heading off to college in the fall. You have passed the baton to him to begin his journey to the next stage of his life. The instructors at Oxford Learning South are exceptional and have helped my child learn, understand, and develop effective lifelong learning skills that apply to all subjects. In a short period of time my child's report cards have improved dramatically. I especially appreciate that the program is flexible enough that my child can let the instructors know what they are covering in school and help him understand and learn in parallel with school content. What used to be frustrating to him (and us) is no longer causing stress and anxiety. This has boosted his confidence and helped him to succeed. I highly recommend the staff and Oxford Learning.

June 12, 2020 I have had my 8-year-old going to Oxford Learning South for almost 2 years. We have seen great improvement in not just her math and writing skills, but also in her self-confidence. Oxford Learning has provided great quality teaching and focuses on what works with the student rather than other competitors in the industry where they make the students only learn using repetition. Oxford Learning also provides guidance in any subject even though you may have signed up for only one. Staff is helpful and provide safe learning. Thank you for the great learning experience, Oxford Learning South Edmonton!
