FAQ

Looking for a Tutor in Guelph?

At Oxford Learning Guelph Woodlawn & Hanlon, located at 221 Woodlawn Rd W, Guelph, ON N1H 8P4, we know that successful tutoring goes far beyond homework help. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions.

GROUP 1 — Programs & Subjects

Q1: Do you offer French Immersion tutoring in Guelph? A: Yes. Oxford Learning Guelph Woodlawn & Hanlon offers specialized French Immersion tutoring for students in Grade 1 through Grade 12. Our certified instructors are fluent French speakers who help students build reading comprehension, grammar, writing, and oral communication skills. We also support students enrolled in Core French and Extended French programs across Guelph schools.

Q2: What subjects do you tutor in Guelph? A: Oxford Learning Guelph offers tutoring in Math, French, English, Reading, Writing, Science — including Physics, Chemistry, and Biology — Study Skills, and Homework Help. We also offer specialized programs for French Immersion, ESL, learning disabilities, SSAT/SAT/ACT test preparation, and summer learning — for students Pre-K through Grade 12.

Q3: Do you help students struggling with math in Guelph? A: Yes. Our Guelph tutors specialize in math at all levels — from elementary foundations through Grade 12 courses including Functions (MCR3U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U), and Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U). Our approach builds genuine problem-solving skills and lasting confidence, not just short-term memorization.

Q4: What grades and age groups do you tutor? A: We provide tutoring for students from Pre-Kindergarten (ages 4+) through Grade 12 and University/College Prep. Programs include Little Readers (ages 3–6), Beyond Tutoring (Grades 1–8), Advantage (Grades 9–12), and French Immersion support at all levels.

Q5: Do you offer Physics tutoring in Guelph? A: Yes. Oxford Learning Guelph Woodlawn & Hanlon provides Physics tutoring for high school students including Grade 11 Physics (SPH3U) and Grade 12 Physics (SPH4U). Our tutors help students understand formulas rather than memorize them, apply concepts to real-world problems, and prepare effectively for tests, labs, and final exams.

Q6: Do you offer Chemistry tutoring in Guelph? A: Yes. Our Guelph tutors support students in Grade 11 Chemistry (SCH3U) and Grade 12 Chemistry (SCH4U). Chemistry combines conceptual understanding with mathematical problem solving — our tutors help students master atomic structure, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, and exam preparation through structured, step-by-step guidance.

Q7: Do you offer Biology tutoring in Guelph? A: Yes. Oxford Learning Guelph offers Biology tutoring for students in Grade 11 Biology (SBI3U) and Grade 12 Biology (SBI4U). Our tutors help students understand complex biological systems, improve note-taking and study strategies for science courses, and prepare confidently for quizzes and exams.

GROUP 2 — Getting Started

Q8: How does the free cognitive assessment work? A: Our Oxford Learning Dynamic Assessment evaluates not just what your child knows, but how they think and learn. It identifies learning gaps and learning styles so we can design a fully personalized tutoring plan. The assessment takes place at our Guelph centre, is completely free, and there is no obligation to enrol. Call 519-763-5655 to book your session.

Q9: How much does tutoring cost at Oxford Learning Guelph? A: Tutoring costs vary depending on the program, grade level, and frequency of sessions. We offer a free cognitive assessment before making any program recommendation, so you never pay for something that isn't the right fit. Contact us at 519-763-5655 or visit 221 Woodlawn Road, Unit C1, Guelph for a personalized consultation and pricing.

Q10: How quickly will my child see results from tutoring? A: Most students show improved confidence and engagement within the first few sessions. Academic improvement in grades typically follows within 4–8 weeks, depending on the subject and session frequency. Our cognitive approach builds lasting skills, so students continue to benefit long after the program ends.

Q11: Do you help students with ADHD or learning disabilities in Guelph? A: Yes. Oxford Learning Guelph has experience supporting students with ADHD, learning disabilities, and focus challenges. Our cognitive approach helps students develop executive function skills — organization, time management, focus strategies, and study habits — alongside subject-specific tutoring. Every program is tailored to the individual student's learning profile.

Q12: What is the difference between French Immersion and Core French tutoring? A: French Immersion students learn all or most subjects in French and require a tutor who can support academic content across multiple subjects in French. Core French students take French as a single subject and typically need help with grammar, vocabulary, and conversational confidence. Oxford Learning Guelph offers tailored programs for both — our tutors assess your child's specific program and needs before recommending the right approach.

Q13: Do you offer tutoring for students preparing for the EQAO test in Guelph? A: Yes. Oxford Learning Guelph helps students prepare for the EQAO assessment in Grade 3, Grade 6, and the Grade 9 math test. Our tutors focus on the specific skills and question formats tested by EQAO — reading comprehension, writing, and math problem-solving, so students walk in feeling prepared and confident rather than anxious.

Q14: Can tutoring help my child with university application preparation? A: Yes. Oxford Learning Guelph offers University and College Success programs for students in Grades 10–12. We help students strengthen the academic skills, study habits, and subject knowledge needed to achieve the grades required for their target programs. We also support students preparing for the SSAT, SAT, and ACT for those pursuing US university admissions.

Summer Academic Programs

Summer is the perfect time for students to strengthen academic skills, build confidence, and prepare for the upcoming school year.

Duration: 8 weeks
Time: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Ages: 6 - 12 years
Weeks:
July - 6-10 | July -  13-17 | July 20 - 24 | July 27 - 31
August 4 - 7| August 10 - 14 | August 17- 21 | August 24 - 28

Our Summer Camp is designed around exciting weekly themes, giving children something new to look forward to each week while keeping learning fun, meaningful, and engaging. Each theme blends hands-on learning, creativity, movement, and social connection in a supportive, small-group environment.

Every day begins with a welcome circle and check-in question, helping children settle in and connect with their peers. Campers then participate in theme-based STEM and enrichment activities, carefully planned to spark curiosity and encourage problem-solving.

Some of our popular theme weeks include:

  • Build Your Brain, Build Your World: A STEM-themed summer camp where kids design and construct Kinex structures each day, tied to a real-world concept (bridges, roller coasters, towers), finishing the week with a challenge competition that parents are invited to watch.
  • Rhythm & Beats (Music Week): A fun, high-energy week featuring karaoke, rhythm games, and a special music circle experience that encourages confidence and expression.
  • Pirates & Princesses Week: Campers take part in treasure hunts, solve riddles, decorate crowns, explore compass science, and go on imaginative adventures.
  • Create! Art Week: A hands-on arts and crafts week with projects like origami, drawing lessons, and creative experiments such as lava lamps.
  • Superhero Training Academy: Superhero stories talk about strengths and “superpowers". Throughout the day, children enjoy literacy activities (writing, reading, and reflection), outdoor play, structured games, and guided free play with puzzles, blocks, magnet tiles, and more. Each day ends with calm reading and wind-down time.

Our theme-based approach allows children to learn without pressure, build confidence, and stay engaged—while still developing important academic, social, and life skills.
