Tamiza Shamji and Zak Karmali

We're Tamiza and Zak, and we're thrilled to be the owners of Oxford Learning York Mills!

We have owned and operated the Oxford Learning Don Valley Centre since 2016, and we also took over operations at Oxford Learning Don Mills in 2026!

Here's a little more about us:

Tamiza is a long-time educator with over 15 years of experience in the classroom. She holds the following degrees and certifications: B. Ed, ECE, MACTE.

Her hobbies include travelling, baking and crafting. Tamiza and her teams manage the day-to-day operations at their Oxford Learning centres.

Zak has 20+ years of experience in IT Project and Portfolio Management. He earned a B.Sc. in Engineering Technology and is PMP-certified.

Zak handles the business and financial side of their Oxford Learning centres. His hobbies include travelling, reading, and trying new cuisines.  

Angelica Galanis

Education Coordinator

Hello! My name is Angelica, and I am one of the Education Coordinators at Oxford Learning York Mills. I really enjoyed working as a tutor for a couple of years at another Oxford Learning location, but I wanted to work closer to my school, so when a Coordinator position opened up at York Mills, I jumped at the opportunity to continue being a part of the Oxford Learning family! I have always enjoyed working with kids, and I had some impactful teachers who were really great influences. They inspired me to pursue teaching as a career path. I am completing my French education degree at York University, and I'm looking forward to applying everything I've learned and will continue to learn in my role as an educator and, eventually, a teacher!

Hello, my name is Aries, and I am one of the Education Coordinators here at Oxford Learning. I have recently completed my Bachelor of Education and obtained my OCT certification to become a teacher. My mainteaching philosophy is to keep students engaged and excited to learn while also helping them discover their untapped potential!

Michelle Godwin

Hey! My name is Michelle, and I'm one of the Education Coordinators at Oxford Learning York Mills. I worked as a tutor for a few years at Tamiza's other centre, and when she took over York Mills, I wanted to come and help however I could! I completed an Honours Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Mental Health at the University of Toronto, as well as a graduate certificate in Addictions and Mental Health. I'm hoping to work as a counsellor or therapist in the future. I really enjoy working with kids and making sure they reach their full potential by developing a positive outlook on life and learning!

Hi! I’m Brian. I’m a second-year York University student working on completing an accelerated Bachelors of Nursing. I greatly enjoy encouraging a positive outlook on learning and helping students build confidence in their abilities. I look forward to inspiring students to develop new skills, overcome challenges, and enjoy learning.

Hi everyone! My name is Mary (she/her), and I am a Teacher Candidate at York University specializing in Primary/Junior Education. My passion for the field comes from moments in my own academic journey when I strived for a more supportive and engaging learning environment. My experiences have motivated me to create a space where every learner feels valued. At Oxford Learning, I hope to empower students to build the confidence and resilience they need for both academic success and personal growth. I plan to provide inclusive instruction through hands-on learning, authentic relationships, and allow students to take ownership of their learning, allowing them to succeed.
