Did you know? Between 62-78% of all students lose academic ground during the summer.
Next year’s school success begins this summer at Oxford Learning.
Every student will struggle to pay attention in class at one point or another. Whether it's a disruptive classmate, a subject they are not interested in, or a non-stimulating instruction style, attention struggles can have many sources.
But when students struggle to pay attention in class, parents can wonder if their child could have a learning difficulty such as ADHD.
The Oxford Learning West Vancouver tutors know that it’s important to keep in mind that not every student who struggles with attention has ADHD. In fact, there are many reasons that students might struggle with paying attention.
Common signs that your child is having trouble concentrating in the classroom include:
These signs don’t automatically mean your child has a learning difficulty. Before you start looking for solutions, the first step is to identify the reasons your child is having trouble focusing in school.
Once you know what’s causing your child’s focus issues, you’re ready to make a plan to overcome them. Give us a call for a personalized learning plan to help your child succeed.

Advantage High School Success At the beginning of this school year Isabelle was really struggling. Her reading, writing, and comprehension were not at grade level, and she was finding it difficult to grasp new ideas and concepts. She was quickly falling behind in all school subjects, even by the end of the first month! By October I had enrolled Isabelle with Oxford Learning. I have always wanted the best for my child, as education is a very important issue. I had heard many positive remarks about your program and felt it was worth a try. As school went on, I noticed remarkable progress with Isabelle’s schoolwork and self-esteem. Her grades have improved and her confidence has grown to a new level, both socially and academically. She works very hard in school and is no longer struggling as before. Overall, she is a much happier student! S. HolmesS. Holmes
Beyond Tutoring My son Michael attended Oxford Learning during the last school year. Michaels’ grades increased tremendously as a result of the assistance of your staff. The dedication and persistence of those who helped Michael paid off considerably in that Michael graduated from grade eight with a 75% average and received the Most Improved Student Award from his school! I am sure that his achievements during the last school year will do much to provide the impetus that he needs to begin his high school years and to continue with his academic requirements. Above all else, Michael’s change in attitude towards his school experience was exceptional. I wish to thank you on behalf of my wife and I, and we look forward to your continued assistance this September. Sally, Steven and MichaelSally, Steven and Michael
Little Readers We originally had Chloe going to Oxford Learning two days a week, but when we noticed how much she flourished and enjoyed it, we quickly signed her up for a third morning. Chloe’s eyes light up when she tells us about her mornings, and she asks if she has school in the mornings during our bedtime talks. She shrieks with excitement when we tell her that she does. We think that she would happily attend every day of the week! Our experience at Oxford Learning has been absolutely wonderful; you’ve given her a love of learning. M and G VogiatisM and G Vogiatis
Advantage High School Success Oxford Learning's in-depth knowledge and sound recommendations struck me as unique. After having tried different methods and organizations, I discovered that Oxford Learning had it all. They carefully assessed my child and pinpointed his strengths and weaknesses. They took the time to explain how they could help my child and suggested a schedule that would fit my son's schedule and learning style. Ever since my son started, he has become a more independent learner and started asking for help from the Oxford Learning staff; and, now, from his own teachers. Now, we have more time to do things together instead of trying to get him to do his homework. He completes his homework on any subject by himself, or with the help of the flexible and caring Oxford Learning staff. A true transformation in less than three months. I almost forgot! Not only did they help my son to learn how to learn, but their administrative team is also fantastic. They communicate with you at all times and are always trying to improve how to make things easier and better for your child. Thank you, Oxford Learning Staff. S. JonesS. Jones★★★★★

Hi! I'm James, the Centre Director at Oxford Learning West Vancouver I am a Lakehead University alumnus with Bachelor's Degrees in both Business Administration and Education.
When I joined Oxford Learning in 2013, I discovered my passion for teaching and immediately fell in love with the Oxford Learning program. Since then, I've become the owner of four locations across British Columbia and Saskatchewan and continue to work with students of all ages to improve their academic skills.
It is our job as educators to help students discover that learning can be enjoyable! Without the element of fun, a student will cease to connect with the materials and become disengaged. If a student enjoys developing new skills, they will be motivated to take responsibility for their own learning experiences in all areas of life. Working in tandem with the Oxford Learning Interactive Coaching philosophy, my goal is to run centres that leave students feeling excited about their next lesson with us.

Hi, I'm Cissy, the Education Director here at Oxford Learning West Vancouver. I am a recent Bachelor of Arts graduate from the University of British Columbia. Although my degree was in Geography, I have always spent my time outside of school working with kids!
Before Oxford Learning, I have over 5 years of experience working with children aged 6-18 in both summer day camp programs and private and group tutoring. At Oxford Learning, I most enjoy teaching our younger students who are just learning to decode new words and how to read. These students are always so keen to learn and I love the smiles on their faces when they are able to piece the puzzle together and read words based on their sounds! I believe that although strong academic skills are important, it is more essential to teach students how to learn and support their learning independence.
Outside of Oxford Learning, you will find me out in the forest for a walk or baking up some tasty treats!

Hi there, I'm Stephanie! This is my second year teaching English with Oxford Learning. I have a Bachelor of Education and have worked with kids for many years, in many capacities: teaching in the classroom, group and 1:1 tutoring, and running outdoor education programs in Australia. I enjoy helping students 'learn how to learn', and love seeing them progress and become independent learners. I really like how Oxford Learning programs are personalized for each student, and the way they encourage kids to develop critical thinking skills that will help them not only at school but in all areas of their lives!
When I'm not at work you'll find me hiking, skiing, paddling and exploring our beautiful backyard in the Sea to Sky!

Hi, I'm Sebastian. I work as a K-12 math, physics, chemistry and general sciences teacher here at Oxford Learning West Vancouver. I received my Doctorate of Natural Sciences (Dr.rer.nat.) at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, Germany. In 2014, after working as a scientist in the field of basic psychiatric research at Munich's Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry, I moved to Canada to work as a Math and Sciences teacher for the Vancouver School Board at the former Downtown East Education Centre. In this position, I discovered my passion for teaching and worked also tutoring math and sciences as a teacher for the "Women in Trades" program with the Open Door Group.
After six years of teaching experience, I believe in using goal setting strategies and positive feedback to inspire my students to work hard and find their own source of motivation. I excel at establishing connections with students who have had negative school experiences and you will find me teaching each lesson with great enthusiasm for each topic.

Hello, my name is Eva and I have been facilitating online English and math classes at Oxford Learning since September 2020. I enjoy working with children of all ages, and I have experience instructing both in and outside of the classroom. I was a swimming coach for nearly five years, and after finishing my BA in International Studies, I worked at a middle school in Quebec for two years. I loved it so much that I decided to pursue a career in teaching, and I am currently doing the 11-month BEd at UBC.
When I am not at school or at Oxford Learning, I enjoy cycling, reading and walking at the beach. My favourite part of working at Oxford Learning is seeing students become more confident in their abilities over time.

Hello! My name is Nadine and I am a teacher at Oxford Learning in West Vancouver. My favourite thing about being a tutor is witnessing that ‘lightbulb’ moment for students when they grasp a concept they’ve been struggling with. That progressive building of confidence and skill set is gratifying! I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Linguistics from Simon Fraser University and later on, obtained a Post-Baccalaureate in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Western Washington University.
For the last 7 years, I have worked mainly with school-aged children in community and education settings. Many of the kids I’ve worked with have a range of needs; some have had learning differences and others had behavioural, intellectual, or physical needs. I believe that humans are not all created the same and that everyone has something meaningful to contribute to the world. We’re all special in our own way and sometimes it takes just one person to tap into our potential and allow us to shine. This is another reason I love tutoring – it's not just about academics but about building greater confidence and self-perception to excel across many areas in life.
Outside of Oxford Learning, you will find me going for walks, hikes or spending time at coffee shops!

Hello! My name is Alliah and I teach English to elementary and secondary level students at Oxford Learning West Vancouver! I am currently in the process of completing my undergraduate degree as an English Language and Literature major, as well as undertaking the TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) Certificate program at the University of British Columbia. I love to engage with students of all ages and seek the ways in which I can help them develop themselves as students. In doing so, I strive to form meaningful connections with my students in order to create a safe, welcoming and productive working environment.
Prior to working at Oxford Learning, I had very minimal experience working with children, consisting of volunteer opportunities or short summer camp positions. However, each experience has left me with great lessons and memories of the colleagues I worked with and our shared learning experiences, as well as the students that we safe-guarded, coached and connected with!
One of my favourite things about teaching at Oxford Learning is the enthusiasm students show towards “Mr.Fishy.” It is a rewarding experience both for me and the students as they show me what they’ve learned and retained from our lesson!
When not teaching (or learning about teaching) I enjoy singing, reading, and attempting to learn Spanish!
